Role Overview
We are looking for a Junior Coating Inspector to support our coating and painting inspection operations on structural steel and piping projects. Under the guidance of senior coating inspectors, you will assist in surface preparation assessment, environmental condition monitoring, coating application verification, and final inspection activities in accordance with NACE/SSPC standards and project specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in inspecting surface preparation and abrasive blasting to verify compliance with SSPC/NACE standards and specified cleanliness levels
- Monitor environmental conditions including dew point, relative humidity, and surface temperature during coating operations
- Measure dry film thickness (DFT) and wet film thickness (WFT) using calibrated gauges and document results
- Perform adhesion testing (pull-off and cross-hatch) and holiday detection on applied coating systems
- Assist in material receipt inspection of coating products and verify batch numbers and shelf life
- Prepare daily inspection reports and maintain coating inspection records in project documentation systems
Qualifications & Requirements
- NACE CIP Level 1 or SSPC PCI Level 1 certification in coating inspection
- Minimum 2 years of experience in coating inspection for oil & gas, structural steel, or industrial projects
- Knowledge of surface preparation standards including SSPC-SP1, SP5, SP6, SP10, and NACE No. 2/SSPC-SP10
- Familiarity with coating types including epoxy, polyurethane, zinc-rich, and thermal spray aluminum systems
- Proficiency with inspection gauges including DFT gauges, hygrometers, profilometers, and adhesion testers
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team environment
