Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Welding Inspection Engineer to review and qualify welding procedure specifications (WPS), procedure qualification records (PQR), and welder performance qualifications (WPQ) in accordance with ASME Section IX. You will monitor production welding at client fabrication sites, witness mechanical testing, conduct visual inspections, and ensure that all welding activities meet project quality requirements and applicable code standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and approve welding procedure specifications (WPS) and procedure qualification records (PQR) per ASME IX, API 1104, and AWS D1.1
- Qualify welders through witness testing and review of welder performance qualifications (WPQ) records
- Conduct visual inspection of welded joints during fit-up, root pass, hot pass, and completed weld stages
- Witness mechanical testing including tensile, bend, impact, and hardness tests on procedure and production test coupons
- Monitor welding parameters including preheat, interpass temperature, amperage, voltage, and travel speed
- Prepare detailed welding inspection reports and maintain comprehensive welding documentation for project records
Qualifications & Requirements
- CSWIP 3.1 or AWS CWI certification in welding inspection from a recognized international body
- Minimum 3 years of welding inspection experience in oil & gas, structural steel, or pressure vessel projects
- Thorough knowledge of ASME Section IX, API 1104, AWS D1.1, and ISO 15614 welding standards
- Experience with carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, and duplex materials and their welding requirements
- Proficiency in welding inspection tools including weld gauges, thermometers, and hardness testers
- Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate with fabrication teams and project management
