Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Inspection Engineer specializing in Structural Steel to join our Dubai team. The role focuses on third-party inspection of structural steel fabrication, welding, and erection activities for large-scale commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will perform inspections in accordance with AISC, BS 5950, and AWS D1.1 standards, verify compliance with approved drawings and specifications, and ensure the highest quality standards are maintained throughout the fabrication and construction lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect structural steel fabrication processes including material identification, cutting, fitting, welding, and surface preparation per AISC and BS standards
- Verify welding procedures, welder qualifications, and weld inspection records for compliance with AWS D1.1 and project specific requirements
- Conduct dimensional inspections of fabricated structural members including beams, columns, trusses, and connections against approved shop drawings
- Perform coating and surface preparation inspections including blast cleaning, primer application, and dry film thickness measurements
- Witness and verify load testing, bolt torque testing, and non-destructive testing of structural components and connections
- Prepare comprehensive inspection reports with detailed findings, photographic evidence, and recommendations for non-conforming work
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering from an accredited institution
- Minimum 5 years of experience in structural steel inspection, fabrication quality control, or construction supervision
- Thorough knowledge of AISC 360, BS 5950, AWS D1.1, and applicable ASTM structural steel material standards
- CSWIP 3.1 or AWS CWI welding inspector certification is required for this position
- Experience with structural steel detailing software and ability to interpret complex fabrication drawings and erection diagrams
- NACE Level 1 or equivalent coating inspection certification is highly desirable
