Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled Process Safety Audit Engineer to lead and facilitate process hazard analyses, hazard and operability studies, and layer of protection analyses for our clients in the oil & gas and petrochemical sectors. You will evaluate process safety systems, verify compliance with IEC 61511 and OSHA PSM standards, and provide expert recommendations to reduce process risks and improve safety performance across operating facilities and design projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate and lead HAZOP studies, what-if analyses, and hazard identification (HAZID) workshops for process units
- Conduct layer of protection analysis (LOPA) to evaluate independent protection layers and recommend safety integrity levels (SIL)
- Perform process safety audits to verify compliance with OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, and IEC 61511/61508 standards
- Review safety critical equipment specifications including pressure relief devices, emergency shutdown systems, and fire and gas detection
- Assess process safety information including P&IDs, cause-and-effect diagrams, and operating procedures for completeness
- Prepare comprehensive audit reports with risk rankings, findings, and actionable recommendations for risk reduction
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in chemical or process engineering from a recognized institution
- Minimum 3 years of experience in process safety engineering or auditing within oil & gas or petrochemical industries
- Certified HAZOP leader with demonstrated experience facilitating HAZOP and LOPA studies
- Thorough knowledge of IEC 61511, IEC 61508, OSHA PSM 29 CFR 1910.119, and API RP 752/753
- Experience with process hazard analysis software such as PHA-Pro, BowTieXP, or similar tools
- Strong analytical and communication skills with the ability to lead multidisciplinary risk workshops
