AETERNA conducted API 579 fitness-for-service (FFS) assessments for a fleet of pressure vessels at a gas processing plant. The evaluation covered Level 1 and Level 2 assessments for vessels with identified thickness loss, local thin areas, and crack-like indications found during routine inspection.

Multiple pressure vessels showed wall loss near or exceeding original corrosion allowance. Some vessels had localized pitting and groove corrosion in heat-affected zones. Precise remaining life calculations were required to justify continued operation until the next planned turnaround without compromising safety.
Our API 579 certified engineers performed Level 1 screening assessments for all vessels followed by Level 2 detailed FFS for critical cases. We used ultrasonic thickness data and field measurements as input. Remaining life calculations considered current corrosion rates, minimum required thickness, and future inspection intervals.
